Sea turtle sketch - day 31 of posting everyday

Sea turtle sketch

It's day 31 of posting everyday challenge and I finally discovered I can flip the paper so the sketch fits lol. I'm happy to show my progress with this sea turtle sketch. Thank you for the support !

If you wish to recreate I suggest:
• using a thin paper that isn't high quality if you're a beginner
• art is about practice and making mistakes so don't be afraid of throwing out a few papers
• using a pencil that's on the harder side like most commonly used HB and using softer ones for details like B2
• references help understand how an object (in this case animal) presents itself, maintains balance etc.
• sea turtles are characterized by a large, streamlined shell and non-retractile head and limbs. Unlike other turtles, sea turtles cannot pull their limbs and head inside their shells. Their limbs are flippers that are adapted for swimming, so they are vulnerable while on land.
• a sea turtle’s large, bony shell protects them from predators and abrasions. The shape, size and coloring of the shell depend on the species.
• Habitat destruction is another major threat. Many nesting beaches have been overcome with human activity. Artificial lights from nearby homes likely impact the hatching’s ability to make it safely to the ocean. Human waste, such as plastic, on both the beaches and in the ocean, is also harming the species.
